(ST. CHARLES, MO) Returning to local turf since early April, the St. Louis SLAM women’s tackle football franchise posted 26 points straight en route to a 26-8 victory over the Derby City Dynamite Saturday night at Lindenwood University.

slam bannerVicki Nichols and Keyonna Smith each scored twice in the 18-point duke that raised St. Louis’ record to 4-1 in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA).

Trailing 8-0 in the first quarter, the SLAM scored its first points of the contest as Nichols returned a Derby City kick for a touchdown. Taylor Hay connected with the PAT kick afterwards to whittle the Dynamite’s lead to a solo point, 8-7.

In the second quarter, the SLAM flipped the scoreboard to its favor, 13-8, as quarterback Jelani Kelly connected with Smith, resulting in the receiver’s fourth touchdown catch of the season. The locals maintained its five-point edge at intermission.

With 7:00 remaining in the third, Smith snared her second scoring grab of the evening from Kelly and the SLAM pushed its lead, 20-8, following Hay’s successful kick.

St. Louis widened the score, 26-8, three minutes deep into the fourth quarter as Nichols recorded her second six-pointer of the evening, a touchdown catch from Kelly.

img_st louis slamThe SLAM’s stubborn defense applied perpetual pressure against the Kentuckians for the remainder of the evening and preserved the 18-point victory, resulting in the team’s second straight win.

St. Louis has a bye this upcoming week and returns to action at Lindenwood University on Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m. versus the Tulsa Threat (2-3). Tickets are $12 and children 10 and under get in free with a paying adult.
