(ST. CHARLES, MO) For the St. Louis SLAM, it was quite a way to finish the 2015 home campaign. With 15 uncontested points scored within the final four minutes, the SLAM notched a 35-22 victory over the Kansas City Titans Saturday night at Lindenwood University.
The baker’s dozen win over its Show-Me State rival resulted in St. Louis’ fourth straight triumph and pushed its record to 6-1 overall in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA).
Propelled a lethal offensive line, SLAM running back Taylor Hay scored twice in the second quarter, resulting in a 14-14 tie heading into intermission.
In the third quarter, the SLAM took the lead 20-14, following Keyonna Smith’s touchdown run.
The lead would not be maintained as the Titans tied the game, 20-20, with 7:35 remaining in the contest. A successful two-point conversion resulted in a 22-20 scoreboard flip in favor of Kansas City.
The SLAM countered and retook the lead, 26-22, with 3:45 left as quarterback Jelani Kelly scored her seventh touchdown run of the season. The margin was pushed to six points following a successful two-point conversion.
St. Louis secured victory, and finished its 2015 home record spotless (4-0), with Kaylee Kneutzling’s touchdown run late. Hay’s successful kick afterwards resulted in the final differential.
The SLAM’s 35-22 win split the home-and-home series against Kansas City, who dropped to 4-3.
St. Louis finishes its WFA regular season this Saturday with a road trip to the Windy City to face the Chicago Force (6-1).
