(OVERLAND PARK, KS) In a battle of Show-Me State women’s tackle football power houses, the final result read “East Beats West” as the St. Louis SLAM topped the KC Titans 34-6 Saturday at Shawnee Mission North High School.
With the 28-point road romp, St. Louis improved their record in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) to 3-0.
As projected, the SLAM simultaneously utilized an explosive offense and a stingy defense to topple the cross-state rival. Ten minutes deep into the first quarter, the SLAM sported a 20-0 lead.
Multi-positional specialist Danielle Price later collected a first-half end-zone scamper as St. Louis pushed the score to 28-0 following a two-point conversion from fullback Taylor Hay.
SLAM rookie running back Tawny Rodriguez collected a two-yard touchdown carry, her first career score, as the first half pressed on as St. Louis stretched its lead to 34-0. Paced by another stellar performance from its defensive schema, the SLAM retained the differential at intermission.
St. Louis kept the cushion at 34 points after a scoreless third quarter by both squads. The SLAM defense allowed a fourth quarter touchdown as KC running back Krishna Lee’s end zone romp with 9:40 remaining broke the victorious visitors’ shut out. Through three games, the SLAM defense has only allowed a pair of late-game touchdowns.
The defending WFA Tier II National Champions have outscored their opponents 86-12 through three games this season and with Saturday’s 34-6 outcome collected their ninth consecutive victory.
St. Louis returns to action on Saturday, May 13 in a home re-match against Kansas City to be held at the team’s newest local venue: St. Mary’s High School (4701 S Grand Blvd., St Louis, MO.)
