Following its inaugural public tryout last weekend in Illinois, the St. Louis SLAM women’s professional tackle football franchise is set for another public tryout on Saturday, this time in St. Louis.
The indoor tryout takes place this Saturday from Noon – 2 PM at Tandy Community Center (4206 Kennerly Ave., St. Louis, MO). Registration fee is $20 (cash/money order only, no checks).
The tryout will consist of sprints, agility, strength, conditioning and football assessments. An open question and answer session will close out the two-hour tryout.
Participants are asked to bring workout clothes, shoes (training shoes should be brought but not worn inside the building), water, a towel and, according to its website, a smile. No prior football experience is necessary.
Founded in 2003, the SLAM won the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) National Championship in 2009 and has reached the playoffs four times out of the last six WFA seasons.
Last Saturday, the team held its first tryout in Belleville. Its 2015 season schedule will be set at a later date.
