With one game left in its regular season, the St. Louis SLAM (6-1) travels to the Windy City this weekend, seeks its fifth straight win and faces, arguably, its most imposing foe on its Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) docket.

The Gateway City’s women’s tackle football franchise faces the Chicago Force (6-1) Saturday at Lane Technical High School Stadium. Kickoff is at 5 pm.

The SLAM picked up its fourth consecutive victory this past Saturday at Lindenwood University with a 35-22 triumph over Kansas City. Trailing 22-20 with four minutes left in the game, St. Louis flipped the scoreboard for the winning points with quarterback Jelani Kelly’s touchdown scamper with 3:45 remaining. Kaylee Kneutzling added a touchdown run late to widen the final differential.

During the game, Taylor Hay pushed her rushing touchdown total to nine with a pair of first-half trips to the end zone and Kelly threw for her seventeenth touchdown of the year.

Defensively, Kendall Park, Tiffany Pugh, Chiara Robinson and Keyonna Smith maintained pressure on the Show-Me State rivals en route to the come-from-behind victory.

Saturday’s win solidified, at minimum, a “Top Three” finish in the 11-team WFA American Conference – Midwest Division. The SLAM ended conference play 5-1, behind undefeated Dallas Elite (7-0 in conference play). Three other conference teams have four wins heading into this weekend’s WFA play.

But well before any potential talk of post-season approaches, a heavy task is at hand this Saturday. The SLAM’s opponent is one of the leaders of the WFA National Conference.

img_chicago forceChicago dismantled the Indy Crash, 60-7, this past weekend to net its sixth win of the season. The Force won five straight earlier in the year to set the tone of dominance. Its lone setback this season was a 40-34 heartbreaker to Boston two weekends ago.

As with the SLAM, Chicago contains multiple layers of attack. Quarterback Rachel Gore has 19 touchdown passes and 14 scoring runs on the season. Running back Cassie Brick has 12 touchdowns (six rushing, six receiving) while Kelsey Casey has contributed eight rushing scores.

The Force has outscored its opponents, 431-62, through seven games, which includes three shutouts.

Live audio coverage, broadcasted by WJOB Radio, begins at 5 pm and is available online AT THIS LINK.
