In WFA D2 Midwest Region action, we see two undefeated POWERS in the game face off in an EXTREMELY likely playoff preview, as the three-time National Champions St. Louis Slam (5-0, 0-0 D2) host the defending D2 American Conference Champions Minnesota Vixen (5-0, 2-0 D2) in what has ALL the makings of “one for the ages” and will virtually guarantee the winner home-field advantage throughout the American Conference playoffs.
All-time series: Slam lead, 1-0
Points: Slam 35, Vixen 21
Last meeting: The Slam defeated the Vixen 35-21 on May 27, 2017 in Minnesota, the teams’ only previous meeting to date.
Meeting of the year: Only (of the regular season, at least)
Thoughts on the Vixen: The flagship team of women’s tackle football is pickin’ up RIGHT where they left off last year, outscoring their opponents 168-19, defeating both their peers AND higher-division teams in their wake. In their 21st season, the Vixen are feeling that this is the one where they FINALLY capture their first national title in their third try…if they can knock off D2’s perennial juggernauts, they will turn EVERY pundit’s eye on them as favorites to represent their conference in Colorado this July!
Thoughts on the Slam: The Slam haven’t lost a SINGLE step from their one-year hiatus…outscoring their opponents 199-27 this season and not having lost a single game in almost two years, the Slam’s impact remains strong as ever as right now they’re the favorites to complete their #QuestforFour in Colorado this July…first off, they host the team who currently holds the conference title for which the Slam were never defeated, looking to silence ALL doubt as they’re set resume their dynasty! Yes, this game will TRULY be an unforgettable one.
The questions are: Will the Vixen prove that they’re here to stay as the top team in the D2 Midwest and ensure that the road to Golden goes through the Twin Cities? Or will the Slam once again prove themselves to be in a class by themselves and get on track to route another road to the ‘ship through STL?
